Taylor Romps To World Series Title
PDC / Bull’s-Eye News Official Event Report
May 21, 2006

PHIL TAYLOR won the inaugural World Series of Darts with a 13-5 victory over Adrian Lewis at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Photo: WSOD Winner Phil TaylorConnecticut.

The 13-time World Champion was in brilliant form throughout the event, which offered $1 million for an American champion.

Although John Kuczynski was the only home player to reach the last 16, it was Taylor who emerged to take the $100,000 first prize for a PDC champion and the first World Series of Darts title.

Taylor announced his intentions immediately in the final against his protege Lewis, hitting a maximum with his first three darts and 140 on his next visit to the oche.

After wrapping up the first leg with a 126 finish, he won the next four to open up a 5-0 lead.

Lewis hit maximums of his own on his way to winning the sixth and seventh legs, but three more legs for Taylor put him 8-2 up.

Lewis took out 74 on the bull to win the 11th leg, but Taylor bettered that with a superb 158 finish in the next before moving 10-3 up with double 16.

Lewis took out double four to win the 14th leg, but two more from Taylor put him within one leg of the championship.

Both players landed 180s in the next with Lewis stepping in to take double four after Taylor missed two darts at double 12.

But Taylor was not to be denied, hitting a maximum to leave 78 and then landing double ten to take the title of World Series of Darts champion.
