Watkins Wins Philadelphia Qualifier PDC / Bull’s-Eye News Official Event Report March 04, 2006
Jim Watkins is the fourth American to win a place in the World Series of Darts, winning Saturday's qualifier in Philadelphia.
The 51-year-old defeated Tom Stewart 4-2 in the final to put himself in with a chance of winning the $1 million awarded to an American champion at the Mohegan Sun Casino in May.
The first four legs of the final went with the throw to leave the scores tied at 2-2 before Watkins stepping in to land a clinical 156 finish after Stewart narrowly missed double ten.
He then held his throw to secure the victory, and admitted: "This is great!
"The tournament is a win-win situation for all darts players and a great opportunity for Americans."
Watkins - who has previously played in the World Championship and World Matchplay - came through a field of 147 players to win a place alongside 15 other Americans against the top 16 PDC players.
He won 4-2 in his semi-final against local favourite Mike Naulty, with Stewart defeating Kevin Regan in the other last four contest.
