Veljic Wins First World Series Spot PDC / Bull’s-Eye News Official Event Report February 06, 2006
THE first American player to win a place at the 2006 World Series of Darts is Isen Veljic, who won Saturday's Virginia Beach Qualifier.
Chicago-based Veljic defeated Cabell Saples 4-1 to come through the 144-player field and win a place at the Mohegan Sun Casino in May - when he will bid to win the $1 million first prize.
"It feels great," said Veljic. "I came down here from Chicago to win, and I believed in myself the whole time - I'm overjoyed."
Roxanne Henderson was was the furthest lady in the event, reaching the last 32.
Veljic is the first of 12 players who will win qualifying events staged around the United States in the next two months.
They will be joined by four players who will qualify from "Friday Night Madness" - which is held at the Mohegan Sun on 19 May - in the main tournament.
The World Series of Darts will see the 16 Americans face the top 16 PDC players, with a $1 million first prize going to a US winner.
The second qualifier is taking place in Atlanta on Sunday.
