Budweiser UK Open All Ireland Regional Final
Ronnie Baxter boosted his hopes for the Paddy Power World Grand Prix by picking up the first
Budweiser UK Open Regional Final of the 2003/2004 campaign.
Baxter who has been dogged by back trouble in the last six months looked relaxed and focused
as he saw off Dennis Smith with relative ease two sets to nil in the Budweiser UK Open All Ireland Regional Final at the City West Hotel, Dublin.
Over a hundred darts players had turned up at the City West to contest the £15,200 prize
fund and it was The Rocket who picked up the £4,000 prize and who sits top of the Order of Merit after the first of eight Regional Finals.
Smiffy who’d comeback from a set deficit against Colin Lloyd in the semi final didn’t have a
look in after losing the first set and Baxter wrapped up the tournament with an easy 40 outshot to pick up his first title since the Irish Masters in February
of this year.
Ronnie had booked his place in the final with an impressive win over Steve Beaton in the
semis - clinching the match with a 145 under pressure.
Both men had missed shots at the doubles early on and Beaton in particular was rueing
chances that had gone astray.
“I’ve had a lot of trouble with the muscles in my back,” said Baxter afterwards. “I’ve
had three months of physio which has loosened things up.”
The world’s top 24 plus eight qualifiers must now ready themselves for the Paddy Power World
Grand Prix which starts on Monday at the City West - live on Sky Sports.
