ESPN Premiere: Darts in Prime Time

Breaking News 08/08/2006: ESPN Reschedules WSOD Broadcast Times GO

At 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, America will be treated to its very first glimpse of ESPN’s landmark World Series of Darts made-for-prime-time television event. This premiere episode, the first of eight one-hour segments (all scheduled to air at 7:00 PM on consecutive Tuesday evenings), represents truly groundbreaking television here in the United States. For dart players and fans alike, this is simply a not-to-be-missed television event. Never before has a professional dart tournament been constructed —literally from the ground up— expressively for the American television viewing audience.

Photo: Johnny K On StageShot over a period of four months at 14 individual events in 10 states across the country, ESPN’s cameras followed the complete US qualifying process from beginning to end, concluding with the exciting main events at the posh Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut on May 20-21, 2006. There, 16 superb American qualifiers faced off against the top 16 PDC ranked professional players —arguably the best darters in the world. And all... on stage and on camera with a potential million-dollar prize on the line!

ESPN’s World Series of Darts program will not only take you inside tournament halls and pubs across America, introducing along the way the players and fans at the heart of the global steel-tip darts explosion, it will also reintroduce to you this age-old, “every-mans” sport being played at its very finest: A truly professional playing field occupied by fierce competitors, all engaged in a head-to-head battles that are —more often than not— won or lost in measures of mere millimeters.

If you are already a member of the growing darts community in this country, and have seen professional tournaments before, you already know how truly exciting this can be. If not, and if you think you know how darts is played —think again. The American view of steel-tip darts and darts on television is about to change forever! Game on!
