The O.E.D.L., Philadelphia Pa., Conducted the First GHS Player’s Tournament To Rave Revues in
February, 2005.
Eyes shined bright with concentration and faces grinned or showed strain against the demands this style
of competition carries. All faces showed the exhilaration that comes from first class competition. When do “guppies” get to play head to head with “sharks” and be serious
about it with out sacrificing the opportunity to win prizes? When do “guppies” get to compete against league regulars and be serious about it? When is everyone tested so
completely? At a GHS Player’s Tournament, that's when!
This ‘First Of The Kind’ tournament was introduced by The O.E.D.L. and show cased a new concept for
darts tournaments on February 26th at the Dark Horse Tavern on Head House Square in Philadelphia. This method of conducting tournaments is designed to allow the “recreational” darts player to participate in tournament style competition without handicaps and boost business for those who support darts regularly.
The “guppies” of darts competition got to compete against the “sharks.” Three groups of competency
were established and each entrant seeded themselves into the group in which they would be most competitive through individual seeding competition.
The “sharks” were required to bring their ‘A’ game every time out, no easy games, and were stretched to
their limit and beyond: a real test of ‘A’ ability.
All shared the same difficulty playing against ‘B’ and ‘C’ group players as well as ‘A’ players, but competed for prizes only among other ‘A’ players. Those who handled the difficulty best won within their group.
‘B’ and ‘C’ group players also were tested for who among their group best handled the strain of
competition and received acclaim among their respective groups as did the ‘A’ players.
