It is with deep regret that Space Coast Darting Association is announcing that the Glenn
Silva Memorial Florida Open Tournament has been cancelled for Labor Day weekend 9/3-5/2004 due to Hurricane Frances.
As most of you know that have been following this and other storms Frances is currently
projected to make land fall somewhere in East Central Florida. Melbourne is located in Brevard county and currently we are as close the Bulls eye as you can get. Hurricanes are extremely difficult to predict therefore the cancellation of the tournament. Currently hurricane winds are as far out as 80 miles from the center and is a category 4 that is expected to reach category 5. It is an extremely dangerous situation.
Many of you (our friends have called) holding out hope that we would be able to avoid this
hurricane we were hoping too. We value each and everyone and are disappointed to make this announcement. For those of you that were coming from out of state
thank you for your interest and support of our tournaments. We are sorry that plans have been altered but anybody that has lived and survived an event like this and has seen results first hand can fully understand what we're bracing for.
At this moment in time lives and health are more important than a tournament. I implore all of our
friends from Florida and regions that could be affected to PLEASE PREPARE FOR WHAT MAY COME. Hurricane Charly taught us a week and a half ago that
conditions can change in as little as 2 hours.
Please forward this message and help get the message out ASAP so those that aren't aware of
this cancellation can change there plans. Once again we are very sorry about this development and WE WILL MISS YOU, OUR FRIENDS.
PS. thankfully hurricanes are very rare in the last weekend in February so please remember our
Space Coast Spectacular in 2005.
