Dear BEN,
No big rush on answering this e-mail. I’m just curious about the scoring on the American
game in this issue of BEN. I saw some pictures with Darin Young and an American board with a triple ring. The American game I use to play was on a board
shaped like a diamond and we played 9 innings. There was only a single and a double in a wedge. Highest possible score was 54. A turkey was 6 points and it had
the same feel as hitting your double out. I saw a letter to the editor in the program in Vegas about Halfmoon, NY, and the Troy board. I think that’s what I was weaned on.
Since I had the best week of my life in Vegas shooting darts, the wheels have come off
my game. The concentration level that was required to compete was exhausting to me. I just didn’t want to look foolish. I did win 3 legs and scored my first Ton
Eighty. I caught Shayne Burgess first thing in the morning and he was cold. If I had hit my outs in the first 2 games, I might have swept him 4
straight. Anyway, I have not been able to mentally get up for summer league games. Time to reread the books on the mental aspect of the game.
Just wanted to thank you for the website. I never would have known about the
tournament and how easy it was to get involved at such a high level. I highly recommend the experience to anybody that wants to test their mettle. There wasn’t a slouch in the bunch. I wish there had been more Americans in the tournament. Maybe next year. Thanks again,
—Kevin
