Dear BEN,
I don’t write much to Bullseye News other than to take a whack at someone. Last time I wrote was to let Dick Allix know I would be bringing a medal back from the World Cup in '95. I did it too. Well, I have not been into the international qualifying for the ADO nor have I tried to travel much. It is hard to work and try to go out of town for tournaments when the money is spread out so thin at most tournaments. A person has to win at least two or three events to make money and then it isn’t that much. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the sport and competitive nature you get at tourneys, but sometimes that isn’t enough.
I have been playing for 23 years and missed the “Golden Years” by about 5 years. There used
to be some good money and you didn’t have to play until the wee hours of the morning to make it. Two singles, Two doubles and a blind draw was pretty much it.
Now that I am older, I wish there were more tourneys like that presently. Ten to twelve events are just too much anymore. I for one like to visit with old
friends and have time to get a bite to eat or just relax and have a drink and tell old stories about Larry Butler, K.C. Mullaney, Leighton Rees, Paul Lim and
several other players. Some gone, and eventually forgotten. It is a shame that no one I spoke to after Leighton Rees passed on knew that he was the first World
Champion. Amazing isn’t it?
I do love this game and try to remember my history about it. I also listen and try to learn
as much more as I can. If anyone has a good story to tell, please send it to me at imasaintsfreak@aol.com. I know quite a few players around the country, new
and old, so come on and send them in to me. Yes I am thinking about a book of some sort. Something good that we can all read and enjoy. So all the help I can
get is appreciated.
I wish all great darts and hope we can all pull together and make darts in the U.S. as
prosperous as possible.
Thanks for your support over the years,
—Roger Carter
