Dear BEN,
Well Mr. Peek, The Detroit Open Dart League was started in 1959-60 and it was recognized by
Bull’s-Eye News, I think, in a 1989 issue as the oldest dart league in the US. The founder was Harry Tomlinson and he still plays.
We have records going back that far as well.
As far as the South Canadian League goes, we used to play in the Canadian Legions
in Windsor, ON, and they would play here in the US. So, if you could go back through your old issues in the late 80’s, you will find the information.
Thanks.
—Anthony Bradford, Sr. Past Rules Chairman for the oldest league in the US – The Detroit Open Dart League
Dear Mr. Bradford, Sr:
Thank you very much for this important information. I would
be very interested in interviewing you and Harry Tomlinson and any other Detroit Open Dart League founders or long-time members. I can be contacted
through BEN or at dpeek@socket.net.
I also invite any BEN readers with interesting
historical information on darts in America to contact me.
—Dan Peek
