Indy film maker Scott Cummins produced and directed “Bullseye – The Movie” in 2005. Shot over 11 days on a scant budget of just less than $8,000, this movie is the first and only feature comedy about the sport of darts.
Plot synopsis: After losing his father in a freak accident, dart throwing phenom Billy ‘Bullseye’ Jefferson vows never to compete again. Then, twenty years later his wife leaves him, his brother needs him, and his dream of buying his very own bar is fading before his eyes. The only way BULLSEYE can turn things around is to compete in the famous Triple D’s Annual Cricket Open and see if he still has what it takes to be a champion.
So, what was the impetus behind this bit “pointed” comedic cinema? We asked Mr. Cummins and here’s what he had to say:
So there we were at our editing studios for our indie film company, Squawking Parrot Productions, and we were throwing some darts to kill the time. We started talking about what our next movie should be about (we had previously made the comedy DEXTER MURPHY’S EXPIRATION DATE), and it hit us—they’ve made movies about every other sport, poker, baseball, hell, even Dodgeball, why not a movie about darts?
We wrote the script and auditioned some people, threw some darts, drank some beer, rewrote the script, drank some more beer, and made a movie. Who knew that a couple years later it would become a cult hit in the dart world? To be honest, when we were writing the script, we didn’t even know there was a “dart world.” Wow, have we been educated since then.
We hope you have as much fun watching this movie as much as we did making it. It's a perfect film for inviting over some friends, drinking some beer, and throwing some darts while watching—who doesn't love to do that? It has also been rumored that people who watch BULLSEYE, and quote it often while throwing darts, are 12% more likely to shoot their best game ever. Good luck!

Voks Darts Inc. is located in Mentor, Ohio, just east of Cleveland. They did not start out as a dart manufacturer but as a machine shop in 1973. The idea of making darts began when Mike Orav, owner of the shop, decided to make a “custom” set of darts for himself in 1980. Word quickly spread and friends would frequently come in and ask for “custom” darts, which led to the launch of a small product line. Then dawned the idea for new a movable point dart. At that time, there were some axially movable points on the market, but he wanted something better. This desire gave birth to the “Helix” movable dart point design, which he patented 1986. Then in 1987, having access to all kinds of machinery, came the idea of producing a patterned dart, which could only be done on a CNC machine.
Since then, Voks Darts has continued to produce innovative new products, including the ”El-C” dart line, which debuted in 1995. Truly unique, the “El-C” dart point is a brilliant one piece design, and while there are no parts or pieces, players still get the advantage of a movable point dart. At one time, Voks sponsored Jerry Umberger and precision crafted the design of this popular dart to his specification. Jerry went on to win many tournaments in his day, and was probably one of the most popular darters in the country at the peak of his game. He was also a great promoter of his style of dart, but now that he is semi-retired, Voks has elected to phase out two of his designs as a special holiday closeout.
