The Widdy Men - The American Darts Championship

The A.B.D.A. National Championships for American Darts was completed this past Sunday with a THRILLING  FINAL in the “A” Division.  It went “way too late” (reminiscent of the old days at the Freeland VFW) due to the many close 3 game matches throughout the day and a 6 game finals for the “A” Division.  Many had mixed emotions since VIP Darts #1 was in the King Seat, but John Petrick (PA State Tournament Director for a number of years and a sentimental favorite) was on the Freeland team of Just Us that met VIP in the finals.

Not a play by play here, but understand that what happened at the very end WAS MONUMENTAL in our sport. A number of us have discussed this and we think that this hasPhoto: Just Darts NEVER EVER HAPPENED BEFORE in a major tournament (PA State Tournament) final game 9th inning.  The Hammer Man for VIP Darts, Joe Haganey, needed a perfect score Ginsberg in the 9th inning of the 6th and deciding game to tie the score. He took a fair amount of time to line up the shot and get comfortable at the toe board. First dart trip! Joe went to the board and checked it to be sure.  He took his time again and then shot the second trip! A long day behind everybody, Joe Haganey measured up the last critical shot and Whacked the Gins! A perfect score to tie it all up!

The match was then won by Just Us in the 10th inning, but there was plenty to cheer about and be proud of on both sides.
