Barbados Darts Festival 2011 • Participation Made Easy • May/Jun 2011

Participation in the 2011 Brydens Barbados Darts Festival made easy with Direct Services from US and Canadian Hubs

Wayne Mardle, the charismatic host of the Brydens Barbados Darts Festival, invites you to join him this November for a dream vacation on the beautiful Caribbean island.

Darts players from the USA looking for a darts holiday of a life time in Barbados, hosted by the charismatic Wayne Mardle, can now take advantage of a number of direct flights, some daily, which are now operating out of a number of major airports in the USA and Canada.

The latest edition to the list of airports serving Barbados is a thrice weekly direct service out of Dallas/Fort Worth with American Airlines. The 5 hour 30 minute journey operates on Monday, Thursday and Saturday with return journeys on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. The other attractive factor is that fares for the round trip have been as low as $381 US.

American Airlines and Jet Blue both operate daily flights from New York and Miami and some good deals should be available on these competing airlines. Added to this there is another direct flight to Barbados out of Charlotte, North Carolina every Saturday operated by US Air. Air Canada and Westjet compete for passengers out of Toronto.

This makes it logistically a lot easier for many more darts players from the USA and Canada to consider participation and, judging by the feedback from those who attended the 2010 Festival, they will have a great time on a Caribbean island regarded by many as the most sought after holiday destination on the planet!

Although the Festival is now in its tenth successful year, it was only last year that the organisers deliberately targeted the darts players from Canada and the USA. Festival Director, Michael Heal, explains:

“This event could not take place without the support of The Barbados Tourism Authority, The Tourism Development Corporation and Title Sponsor Brydens and with far more regular direct flights from an increasing number of north American hubs it was decided that the time was right to replicate what had been achieved with the darts players from the UK.

“The British contingent immediately took to the prospect of 10 days in Barbados with the prospect of meeting new friends in darts from a variety of different countries and backgrounds – and the opportunity of enjoying the company of host Wayne Mardle whose character is ideally suited to hosting an event of this kind.  Wayne is a larger-than-life, gregarious individual, always approachable whether it be for some tips on your technique or simply sharing a beer.

Typical of Wayne’s approach is that he makes himself available on the oches at The Ship Inn for their “Happy Hours” ( 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. ) on a number of days of the Festival to play against all comers and to pass on some tips on technique. Both Wayne and his wife Donna, a county darts players in her own right, also take a full part in the social program.

“We felt that as the flight times to Barbados from most hubs in the USA and Canada ( Toronto, New York, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami ) were less than the eight and a half hours it takes the Brits to get there from London, we thought that we stood a good chance of attracting darts players from the North American continent.  The flight time from Toronto is around 6 hrs, from Dallas/Fort worth only 5 hours 30 minutes, from New York 5 hours, from Charlotte 4 hours 30 minutes and from Miami only 3 hours 30 minutes. So no jet lag either!!

“Last year the participants arriving from Canada and the USA found the Bajan lifestyle very appealing. Everyone commented on just how welcome they were made to feel by everyone they met – from hotel and bar and restaurant staff right through to taxi drivers, shop assistants and the darts players from all over the Caribbean”.

Bottom Bay is just one of the beautiful beaches that await you in this vacation paradise.

All the major darts events take place at the well appointed Solidarity House which has air conditioning, plenty of room both inside and outside of the hall itself, a restaurant serving food at very reasonable prices and a well stocked bar where sponsors Brydens sell their bottles of ice cold Carib Beer at $1.25 each!!!

But the Darts Festival is not just about darts. It would be criminal to come to such a captivating place as Barbados and spend all the time on the oche. The itinerary has therefore been designed to allow both darts players and their non playing partners to enjoy those other aspects of this stunningly beautiful Caribbean island. As well as the beautiful beaches and warm clear seas you can enjoy a variety of water sports, a day out on the Catamaran ( a must! ), an island safari which explores the contrasting geography of the island “off road” in Land Rovers, a selection of golf courses, a day at the races, a night out at the spectacular show, Bajan Roots & Rhythms – and much much more!

The 10th Brydens Barbados Darts Festival, hosted by Wayne Mardle, takes place from October 31 – November 7. Of course, you can stay for longer – Wayne and the majority of the British contingent don’t leave until Thursday November 10.
