2005 ADO NATIONAL 501 CHAMPIONSHIPS The ADO 501 National Championships and the East versus West All Star Challenge Cup competitions were held
at the Stamford Marriott in Stamford, CT, on August 12, 2005.
EAST vs WEST All Star Challenge Cup The 2005 East Team had 24 men and 12 women on their roster compared to the West Team which had 10 women
and 25 men.
Since the competition began in 1988, the East Team has won 13 times to the West’s 4 victories. Winning the East vs West All Star Challenge Cup is important to the players on the teams as the top 10 men and top 5 women from the winning team advance to the ADO National 501 Championships. Only 6 men and 3 women are selected to advance from the losing team. The East Team extended their winning record to 14 – 4 over the West Team in this year’s competition.

the year before defeating Ken Swanson, a National Team member in the first round, Tom Curtin and Steve Hertzfeld to reach the final. Hertzfeld knocked

Mahaffey (Defending Champion), Ryan Morey, Benji Smith, Alex Broderick, Shawna Pike, Ashley Stewart, Glenn Sutton and Danny Russano.
With the odds stacked against her and a
trip to England to compete in the Winmau World Masters, 13 year old Ashley Stewart moved through the competition to get her name engraved on the KC
Mullaney Memorial Youth Trophy as the 2005 Champion.
“I was really nervous, like my whole body was shaking,” said Stewart after it was
over. “I was already tearing up before I threw the last dart because Mike wasn’t missing and he was on a double. I
thought I wouldn’t hit my out. All I was really thinking about was winning the trip to England.”

“I started the round robin off slow, but it’s pretty exciting going to England to represent my country.”
Stewart is the first girl to become the National Youth Champion and most
likely the youngest at 13 years of age. She started playing tournaments at the age of 11 and it looks like she will be a contender for many more years to
