PDC Dress Code

Editor’s Note:
Along with the arrival of the exciting PDC Pro Tour events here in North America, so to have come many player questions. Chief among them, inquiries concerning the official PDC “Dress Code.”

As professional darts events (many televised both here and/or in Europe), there are many differences between PDC Pro Tour competitions and the stock-and-trade tournaments we’re all already familiar with here in North America. These Pro events clearly raise the bar for our sport in the national and world view, and – as a result – also demand additional player awareness and professionalism.

To help address these questions, here is the official PDC “Dress Code” for your reference. If you’re planning to attend and compete in any of the PDC Pro Tour events, this is the information you will need to know: (And make no mistake, this dress code is strictly enforced at all PDC Pro Tour events.)

PDC Dress Code

The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) rules will apply, ie. No jeans, trainers, t-shirts or shorts etc. (The DRA rule book is located here online ) Absolutely no football shirts or shirt advertising which conflicts with the PDC or any of it’s sponsors. If you have any doubts on this then please ring Tommy Cox or Jay Tomlinson to discuss your intentions.

Dress Code for Players Championships
There will be strict dress restrictions for all players and any player who does not conform to what is required at any stage of any of these events will first be asked to change and then eliminated should they refuse to do so.

No player will be allowed to play in the qualifying heats should they not be wearing long trousers (no denims or shorts whatsoever allowed). Collared shirts and their attire must not bear any offensive caricatures or words.  No training type shoes (gym shoes, tennis shoes, etc.) are allowed and all players must wear regular shoes. No head gear whatsoever will be allowed. Exceptions will be made for religious reasons.

All decisions taken by the Tournament Director will be absolutely final.

Dress Code for televised stage play
Players must wear dark long trousers and dark shoes. They must wear collared and sleeved shirts and any logos on shirts must be cleared with the Tournament Director who will be the sole arbiter of what is acceptable.

Players Shirts
Players must adhere strictly to the following regulations or they may be required to change shirts. In the event a player cannot produce a shirt which adheres to the regulations, the PDC will provide a plain shirt for the player to wear.

Types of Advertising Patches Permitted
Players must inform the Tournament Director prior to the start of each event which sponsors patches they will be wearing and the field of business in which they operate.

The Sponsor must not be in the same field of business as the main sponsor of the event. At time of writing, there is no event sponsor for the LVDC, but this will be updated if the situation changes. If any player is unsure about this  , advice should be sought from the Tournament Director prior to the start of each event.

Number and Location of Patches
Players will be permitted to wear up to three of their own patches on their shirt. Additionally, the PDC will provide players with two patches which must be worn. Players should position their own logos in the following order of priority:

 Lower Right chest (position 2)

 Upper Left chest (position 3)

 Lower Left chest (position 4)

The right arm, being the least prominent of all locations, is the only area where competing sponsors to the main tournament sponsor can be worn, only if permission is given by the tournament sponsor. Please note, if the right arm position is used, then only two logos may appear on the front of the shirt.

The PDC’s two logos will be positioned as follows:

 Upper Right chest (tournament sponsor – position 1)

 Left arm (PDC logo – position 6)

General Advertising Regulations
Logos must NOT exceed six square inches in total area - this includes any background surrounding the logo.

No advertising logos are allowed on a player's back.

No slogans (eg Drive Bill's cars) are allowed, only the company details (eg Bill's Cars).

Color Clashes
Players will no longer be permitted to wear shirts on stage with the same main color as each other.  Therefore, all players are requested to bring two shirts with them to each event, and in the event of the Tournament Director deeming there to be a clash in the main color of the shirts, the player ranked lower in the Order of Merit at 9am on the day of the event will be required to change his shirt.  Both shirts must be colored sufficiently different from each other (ie not just different color sleeves) although patterns can be continued across both designs.

Players are asked not to play in plain white shirts.
